Republicans just won’t give up on their misguided attempts to subvert the Clean Water Act. Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming and Dean Heller of Nevada plan to offer a rider denying protections to one-fifth of the nation’s wetlands and as many as two million miles of small streams. The House has approved a similarly destructive measure, so it is crucial that the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, and his Democratic colleagues block this legislation.

Some Republicans say GOP Sen. Dean Heller’s effort to ramp up his 2012 Senate campaign in southern Nevada is slighting voters in northern Nevada. Nevada’s representative to the Republican National Committee Heidi Smith said on a taping of the Nevada Newsmakers political show that Heller had “disappeared from the common man” since he traded his House seat for a Senate seat in May.

KVVU: Veterans honored in Boulder City ceremony

Southern Nevadans honored both the veterans and those currently serving overseas Friday. A ceremony at the Boulder City Veterans Home brought out people from several generations… Many of the veterans are in need of assistance, including employment and housing. “This nation has not always honored its promises,” said Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV). “To have one veteran who put their life on the line for us… homeless in this great country… is a shame.”
